As a new globalized day dawns across Africa, Urban Tribes seeks to reach the city and its emerging éthnei through strategic planting of high influence and high impact churches. As a part of that initiative, the Myers are preparing to plant one of the first of these churches in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In 2004, the Myers began their missionary service in Swaziland, Africa. They served eight years there with a primary focus of supporting the efforts of the national church in developing ministry to children. Serving as the National Children’s Ministry Directors, Doug & Tasha trained children’s workers in churches throughout the nation. They worked to develop a curriculum committee to begin addressing the need for children’s Sunday school curriculum in the siSwati language, as well as developing strategies for a children’s camping program. They also began a Christian Sports Coalition that became an effective tool for evangelism and discipleship through sports. Thousands of children across Swaziland were impacted by sports camps, clinics and tournaments.
In March 2012 as they Myers neared the end of their second term in Swaziland, they sensed God stirring their hearts for unreached people of Africa which lead to their transition to Ethiopia. They now work closely with the Ethiopian Assemblies of God (EAG) church to help strengthen the missions efforts and to develop strategies for church planting among the unreached of Ethiopia. The Myers are passionate about seeing the gospel carried to those who have never heard.
Most recently, the Myers have recognized the tremendous need for a globalized church in Addis Ababa to help shape the emerging éthnei and become a catalyst of the gospel to the 20 million unreached in Ethiopia.
